Login and Overview

This section introduces the login process and provides an overview of the Dune portal, guiding you through its key navigation and interface elements.

Getting Started with the Dune Framework

Portal Access

Access the Dune portal at: https://duneframework.com

Browser Support

The portal is optimized for compatibility with most modern browsers, ensuring consistent functionality across platforms. For the best experience, we recommend:

  • Google Chrome (Recommended)
  • Microsoft Edge (Recommended)
  • Safari

Logging In

When you first visit the portal, you’ll be greeted by the Login Screen. This screen features a single input field and a cookie policy popup at the bottom. To proceed, you must accept the necessary cookies, which are used solely for site functionality and user authentication—no advertising or tracking cookies are employed. For more details, click the Data Protection Statement link (available in the popup or bottom-left corner) to review Yendico AG’s privacy policy.

Dune Login Page

Login Process

  1. In the input field labeled "Enter tenant name", enter your organization’s tenant name.
  2. Click the "Login With Microsoft" button.
  3. You’ll be redirected to Microsoft’s authentication page, where you’ll log in using your work email address and Microsoft credentials.

Login Process

Upon successful authentication, you’ll return to the portal and land on the Tenant Dashboard—your starting point in Dune.

Common Login Errors

If issues arise during login, you may encounter the following error messages:

  • Non-Existent Tenant Name: Indicates the entered tenant name doesn’t exist. Verify the name and try again.
  • Invalid Tenant Name: Appears if the tenant name contains invalid characters or doesn’t meet formatting rules. Ensure it complies with tenant name requirements.
  • URL Tenant Change Detected: Occurs if you manually alter the tenant name in the browser URL while logged in. To continue with your current tenant, return to https://duneframework.com. To switch tenants, log out and log in with the correct name.
  • Already Logged In: If you navigate to /login while active, you’ll see a logout prompt. Follow the same steps as above to resolve.
  • Tenant Name Empty: Triggered when attempting to log in without entering a tenant name. Provide a valid name and retry.
  • Microsoft Login Failed: Suggests an issue with Microsoft authentication. Double-check your credentials or try again later.

Portal Overview

Once logged in, the Tenant Dashboard offers a high-level view of your tenant’s status. From here, you can navigate the portal using several intuitive methods and explore various views tailored to your needs.

Dune provides three primary navigation tools:

  1. Breadcrumbs Bar: Located at the top center, this bar displays your current location and navigation path. Click any breadcrumb to move up the hierarchy.
  2. Search Element: Integrated into the breadcrumbs bar, activate it by clicking the whitespace within the expanded bar or using the shortcut Ctrl+Y. Type an item name for quick navigation (see Portal Search documentation for details).
  3. Left Side Drawer: A collapsible menu on the left, offering links to overview and list pages.

Navigation Methods

Hovering over the breadcrumbs expands the bar, and clicking the whitespace reveals the search field for rapid item lookup.

Views

The Left Side Drawer organizes navigation into three key areas:

List Views

Access list views for Dune’s core item types:

  • Collections
  • Deployments
  • Resources

Select a type from the drawer to display a table listing all objects of that type. Use the table to browse, search, or perform actions specific to each object.

List View Collection

Template View

The Template View centralizes all templates for creating deployments, divided into two categories:

  • Deployment Templates
  • Resource Group Templates

Switch between categories using the tab menu. Templates are presented in a table with options to view, edit, or search. For more details, refer to the Templates section.

Admin Views

  • Settings: Manage administrative tasks such as user management, patch schedules, and resource providers. Each category has dedicated documentation for in-depth guidance.
  • Changelog: View a list of events and changes within Dune, including what happened, when, and what triggered it.

Item Navigation

To explore specific items, use the breadcrumbs, search, or list views—whichever suits your workflow. Each method leads to the Item View, detailed below.

Item View

The Item View comprises three components:

  1. Header: Displays the item’s title, tags, flags, and status indicators.
  2. Action Bar: Offers operational controls tailored to the selected item.
  3. Item Details: A grid of widgets presenting comprehensive information about the item. Learn more in the Grid documentation.
  4. Item Section Navigation: A navigation element that lets you quickly navigate to different sections inside the Item Details. Learn more in the Grid documentation.

Item View

Right Splitter

Certain actions trigger the Right Splitter, a dynamic pane displaying context-specific details. It supports three types:

Dashboard Details

Opens when interacting with the Tenant Dashboard (e.g., clicking a chart or table). Displays detailed, context-specific data, typically in table form.

Notification Details

Click the Bell Icon in the nav bar to view live notifications. Presented as a card list (newest at the top), each card includes details and a link to the affected item.

Template Details

Activated by selecting a template row in the Template View. Shows:

  • General information (e.g., allowed environments, resource providers).
  • A table of related templates.
  • A tree view of the template structure, with a tab for text-based content.

Template Details

The Nav Bar at the top includes specialized navigation buttons:

  1. Dune Logo: Click to return to the Tenant Dashboard.
  2. Search Button: Opens the search element (as described above).
  3. Tenant Name: Located on the right, clicking it takes you to the Tenant View, which mirrors the Item View but includes an additional dashboard tab.

Nav Bar

Right Drawer

Click the User Icon in the nav bar’s far-right corner to open the Right Drawer. It contains:

  1. User Info: Details about the logged-in user.
  2. Tenant Info: Basic information about the connected tenant.
  3. Appearance Settings: Customize Dune’s look with theme colors or toggle Dark Mode.

Right Drawer

Logout

At the bottom of the Right Drawer, the Logout button ends your session and returns you to the login screen.
